These terms set out how we provide our scrap car buying service, what happens between requesting a quote and completing a sale, and the obligations on both sides. By using our service you agree to these terms.

1. About us

Scrap My Car West Suffolk is the trading identity of Sam Jordan Cars Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (Companies House number 07787648), VAT registered under number 855 4025 29. Our registered office is 4B Boldero Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP32 7BS.

We operate as a vehicle purchaser only. We are not an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) ourselves but work with partner ATFs for end-of-life vehicles requiring a Certificate of Destruction.

2. Scope of service

We buy used and scrap vehicles from private sellers within West Suffolk: postcodes IP28–IP33, CO10, IP14 and CB8. Outside this area we may decline to quote or charge a collection fee — this will always be made clear before any sale.

We buy cars and light commercial vehicles in any condition: runners, non-runners, MOT failures, accident damage, end-of-life vehicles. We do not buy HGVs, motorcycles, agricultural vehicles, or vehicles registered outside the UK.

3. Quotes

Quotes provided through our website, WhatsApp, email or phone are indicative offers based on the information you provide. They are not binding contracts.

Our quote assumes the vehicle matches the description provided. If on collection the vehicle differs materially from your description (for example: catalytic converter missing, engine seized when described as running, accident damage not disclosed), we reserve the right to revise the offer or decline to purchase.

Quotes typically remain valid for seven days unless we specify otherwise in writing.

4. Collection

Once you accept a quote, we'll arrange a convenient collection time. Collection from your premises is free within our coverage area. We use a licensed recovery vehicle (or our own trailer for shorter distances).

You should be present for collection or arrange for someone authorised to act on your behalf. If we arrive at the agreed time and the vehicle isn't accessible, we may charge a wasted journey fee or cancel the purchase.

5. Payment

Payment is by bank transfer made before the vehicle is loaded onto our trailer. You'll see the funds arrive in your account before we drive away.

We pay the amount agreed in writing. We do not pay in cash. We do not pay by cheque. We do not require any payment from you in connection with the sale.

6. Your obligations as the seller

You confirm, by accepting our quote and signing the Vehicle Purchase Invoice on collection day, that:

If any of the above turns out to be untrue, we reserve the right to recover the purchase price and any associated costs from you.

7. DVLA notification

We notify the DVLA of the change of keeper as part of the collection process. You'll receive confirmation from DVLA in the post within a few weeks. If you also wish to notify DVLA yourself for peace of mind, you may.

Until DVLA processes the change of keeper, you remain the registered keeper. We accept liability for the vehicle from the moment our trailer leaves your premises with it loaded.

8. End-of-life vehicles

For genuine end-of-life vehicles (where no usable value remains and the vehicle will be scrapped), we arrange a Certificate of Destruction through our partner Authorised Treatment Facility. This is provided to you free of charge.

For vehicles with residual value (parts recovery, breaking, onward sale), no Certificate of Destruction is issued, but you receive the same DVLA change-of-keeper notification.

9. Limitation of liability

Our liability to you is limited to the amount we paid for the vehicle. We exclude all liability for indirect or consequential losses, loss of profit, or loss of opportunity. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death, personal injury, or fraud.

10. Cancellation

You may cancel an accepted quote at any time before the collection appointment by emailing or messaging us. We don't charge cancellation fees.

We may cancel an accepted quote if we discover, before collection, that the vehicle's description was materially inaccurate or the sale would be unlawful (e.g. registered to someone other than yourself).

11. Complaints

If you're unhappy with anything about our service, please contact us first using the details below. We'll respond within five working days. If we can't resolve things between us, you may refer the matter to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
